      Johnny,
I noticed that (trying to) playing along with Bill Haley requires different skills than with normal rock and blues songs. Would you know what type of scale is mostly used and what the most popular start notes would be for R&R?
      Cheers,

The songs that I have played such as Rock Around the Clock and Shake rattle and Roll can be played using the blues scales we discussed here, such as the pentatonic scales and the basic blues scale.

That band's music is derived straight from blues and jump blues which in reality was early rock and roll (which started in the late 40's, not the mid 50's as most people say).

You may find it has a different sound or style and many bands do, even though they are coming from the same roots. Bill Haley's sound is pretty straight forward and not on the dirty side so there's not so much minor 3'rds and flat 7's as some other dirtier sounding bands.
