Michael, Just came across your blog and I know you have been one of the guys most interested in learning to play the sax on this form. Sorry to hear about your condition but the guys here are right. If you cant play anything that has to do with your mouth then pickup the guitar or piano. Many sax players learn to how to play alternate instruments like Johnny who I know plays the piano too. The joy of playing any instrument is not so much the instrument but the performance that you get out of playing music. The sound of a sax or any other instrument can be duplicated on a electronic piano as I am sure you are aware of. So, don’t give up on music as music is in you as I saw in your videos.
keep in touch on this website. It would be nice to see you playing another instrument. Don’t let anything get you down as life is full of disappointments but if you turn it around you will feel like a winner always. Once again take care Marc…..

Wow, was not aware that Seals played sax. I thought it was a song they composed and had a sax player perform it. I wonder if this was the only song seals recorded? Thank you Johnny for letting me know that is was one of them that played this sax original song.

Kevin, well played take five. I think you had posted playing take 5 in the past if I am not mistaken. Wanted to hear you play the whole song as your sound and tone sound very clear on the trill tip video you posted. Either way VERY NICE. Thank you.

Very nice Jeff, heard it’s much harder to play a soprano. Must try one for myself.

Great video with the pink panther and a little of 007 (on sax). Just watched the latest movie from 007 spectra last night (what a coincidence). Loved his improvisation through out the video. Sxpoet, I been starting to try to memorize your great idea of putting the scales in my mind by numbers in order to recall the notes when I try to improvise 357 or 2357 ect. This morning while I was getting my coffee i was just thinking what numbers go with what scales. I think your IDEA is really going to help me out to be able to put together different notes into improvisations in a organized manner. At least I hope so. Thanks forthe tip!

Saxpoet, That is such a great why to memorize the scale and put it into numbers. Once you memorize the numbers to the notes you can jump around from number to number. That would be great to remember what notes go with what numbers and improvise on a scale. Never thought about memorizing it in that way… FANTASIC IDEA…. Will have to try it out. Thank you!

After watching the video again. I believe that is exactly what you meant?
Sxpoet, thank you for taking the time to write it down for me. Greatly appreciated!

sxpoet, A little confused about overtones. The above first part of this video is what I am talking about. Making the sound of higher notes by just using the low B flat key. Then going to the next octave key and using only that key to produce the other higher notes. Is the exercise you give me that first key then trying to make those notes while on fingerings only the first or is this example you gave something else?

Thank you sxpoet, I am trying to make more time to practice but I still have a long road to go with learning and memorizing the basic scales. I am having a little trouble with playing the long tones. As an example, holding a low b flat and just going up trying to reach a mid B then perhaps a mid C then a high D with just using the low B flat key, plus I don’t know if I am using the correct key tones I should be trying in the correct order( B flat to mid B etc)? I think if I can master doing that, it would improve my tone and the ability to reach the altisimo range. Perhaps Johnny can help me with that. Either way sxpoet thanks for the encouragement!
