take the Pentatonic B Major Scale (1 2 3 5 6)
B C# D# F# G#
From that you can create an Altered Pentatonic Major Scale in Bb by flattening all the notes
giving
Bb C D F G
i would assume the chord to be Bb D F (based on the 1 3 5 of a normal major scale)
Ya, we’er using Shot Gun Bb pentatonic on which to improvise
William
Since the pentatonic scale has five notes then there are five chord possibilities.
One major chord, one minor chord, two suspended chords (sus means to replace the 3rd with the 4th and sus2 means to replace the 3rd with the 2nd) and it turns out that the last chord is a minor augmented chord which is just the root major chord inverted.
Using C pentatonic as an example.
C pentatonic consists of C root, D 2nd, E 3rd, G 5th and A 6th.
C-E-G makes up C major
D-E-A is Dsus2
D-G-A is Dsus
E-C-G is an inversion of C major
G-A-D is Gsus2
G-C-D is Gsus
A-C-E makes A minor

When I play the “hey Jude” riff in Bb pentatonic 135 2 1 6 5 it does not sound right. There’s no Dah Dah da da da dah. Bb D F C Bb G F

To make riff sound right I have to play Bb D F, G F G F, That’s 1 3 5….6 5 6 5
I’m doing Bb pentatonic to prepare for Shot Gun improv
William
No three dots for downloading the shot gun groove
William
the 4th note of the Bb major pentatonic is NOT Eb. this scale does not contain the 4th degree.
william, the hey jude riff is right. what I think you’re not seeing is that the “2” is an octave higher.
play Bb D F C (the C is the one that’s a 5th higher than the F)
so in your example ; Bb D F G F GF is wrong. change the G F G F to C Bb C Bb
Thanks Johnny
Bb D F…C Bb C Bb
Got it. Now more Shot Gun
William
