      Hey guys,
Does anyone know who Ray Charles’s Sax player was on this great song, “I got A Woman”? This would make a fantastic Sax Instrumental…I think it would anyway. My wife seemed to agree too 🙂

Hi Tim–yes, he was a great player for sure–fantastic sound. I’m going to start learning this song in a couple of weeks along with Johnny’s new release of “Urgent”, he should be getting ready to release it here pretty soon. Karaoke actually had a really good custom track for “I Got a Woman” that sounds just like the real thing. I was able to remove the Sax lines from the audio mp3 on the track so that I can play them. The Sax lines they generated on their backing track sounded very “generic” but other than that the track sounded very good, which was a shocker to find on Karaoke. Once in a while, they do put out a few backing tracks that are really good, but they’re still nowhere near as good as Johnny’s tracks. I’ve learned quite a bit of Johnny’s stuff and I’m getting ready to start uploading them in about a week or so. The local talent show is just around the corner, so my series of Saxophone uploads are about to start–everyone’s insights are very much appreciated and sorely needed. I want to do as well as I can for this Talent show. And then, there’s my audition for the annual River Fest in December + I’m networking with some great guys through the Blues Society here where I live. Man, SO MUCH going on! By the time my series of uploads are done in December (we’re talking from now in mid September to December uploading a new Saxophone video to my youtube channel every single weekend), you’re probably going to be sick of seeing my face LOL I’m not sure exactly how much of those uploads I’ll post here on Johnny’s blog, most of it will be his tracks/sheet music and I’ll upload a couple of my own. Ronnie Milsap’s song of “Lost in the Fifties” that I learned sounds SO GOOD on the Tenor, lots of fun to play 🙂

looking forward to hearing your uploads Michael! If i was living near you, i’d be out there in the crowd watching you!

When i update my Pc, get a better mike & backing track speakers (my 2 inch speakers just don’t cut it with a saxophone sound) i start up doing some recordings. 🎷

Thanks for the encouragement JB–sometimes I think others think more of my playing than I do. Sometimes, I tend to be my own worst “judge” if you get my meaning and my wife tells me it’s better to let others do the judging….like the audition coming up now in December. I still am somewhat “hesitant” about it because I ask myself if I’m REALLY ready for something like this?!? The talent show in November is one thing, it’s just an event for folks to get together and “show off” a little. But the 2016 River fest is a HUGE event and it’s not too late for me to change my mind about the audition coming up now in December LOL In any case, I try to just have fun; have it be a good upload or a bad one LOL I got to get a better mic too–the one I have is okay for regular uploads; it’s just a simple USB mic. I’m looking into a good Mic to pair up with good Audio USB Interface v.s. just using the simple USB mic plugged straight into the computer. With a good audio interface, the quality of the recordings are SO MUCH better v.s. what I’m doing right now. The new editing software is really helping out a lot as it was definately a positive step for me…but it can’t replace a good mic if you get my meaning.

Michael – get someone to sponsor you to play (gives more incentive – if you do it for a cause/charity/or just for the dollars – could take the pressure off a bit)

Michael – we have a similar event 5 mins from where i live – called “Splendour” which happens every year –

its set in the park grounds of ‘Wollaton Hall’ , which was used in the last batman movie

a local lad – don’t know if you’ve heard of him Jake Bugg performed here

Let me know what mike you get for recording & how it turns out.

                  i was looking at getting

Thanks for sharing JB–with sponsorship there’s even more pressure v.s. just playing. The River Fest is an annual event that takes place here every year. There’s 3 stages–1 stage for professional bands and the other 2 stages for locals like myself. I was coming from the viewpoint of making a mistake in my playing or something in front of that many people, that’s what I meant when I ask myself if I’m really ready for something like the River fest. Our playing needs to be flawless for an event like this. Here’s a link to the annual event, they won’t post anything for 2016 until after the auditions in December. You can find everything I’m talking about under the link of “music”

                      Hey JB,
I checked out in more detail the info. you gave me and I e-mailed them with an Inquiry as to what I would have to do to play over there, looks like it would be great fun. Looks like they have different stages for different kinds of things? Very similar to what happens here. In the rare event I was accepted to play on one of their stages, it would be cool to meet you over there. We’ll see what they say.

Cool – i’ve never thought of enquiring about splendour, way out of my league, i’d have to do a lot of solo gigs to build up my experience. Interested to hear their response to your enquiry.

That would be something – if you turned up to play!
