Hi James, if I was choosing between these three I would go for the pga81 because it has a flatter frequency response and higher output mV.
Are you going to buy an external analog – digital convertor?
Apparently using the PC’s mic input on the soundcard is not advisable because of PC noise.
That’s one thing I like about my Android OS Lenovo A10 – it has zero noise.
Sweetwater recommended that I get a Shure MV51 which I did buy. My ear phones plug into the mic and the mic connects to my mac book pro with a USB. The mic also has a volume-in control.

Hi Jeff,
At the moment 1st of all want to sort out which mic is best for recording in a dead room & and a room with lots of echos,
using an apple mac.
James, I suppose it depends on the sound-scape you want to capture.
Echoes can be very cool – for example
But these guys definitely aren’t garage band!
i think for a fast up & running basic home recording setup for a apple mac is the mv51 & shure 440 headphones, using garage band. which will work with sax & acoustic guitar.
as 99% of my recordings will be just to check practice sessions, and not for uploading – i need a fast record/playback setup, i don’t want to waste valuable practice time twiddling about with quirky setups.
later on when it comes to uploading, i might invest in an audio interface & one of those mic’s that clip on the bell.
James, I think that is a wiser choice going with the USB microphone.
The quality may be so good that you won’t have to buy another microphone for uploading?
JB. check out that reflexion foam
Will do William – all in good time
