Does it say on your sheet music D3 and E3 above the staff? If so, that would pertain to the guitar and it tells guitar players what chord to play; as Saxophone players it doesn’t pertain to us because we can only play one note at a time and not a chord. What key are you playing in? Are there sharps/flats on the key signature that you should be playing?

D3 and E3 are power chords for the guitar.
Saxophone Jazz books do have chords written at the top of the staff for each measure, which indicates to the sax player that they can improvise with these chords in there own style.

Oh I see… the 3 after the chord note doesn’t mean anything in actual musical notation…must be a guitar thing. So what does it mean?

for the guitar in rock music you can have 2 note or 3 note power chords where you either play the bottom 2 or bottom 3 notes on the guitar strings!
good for heavy rock & fast playing.
So they call them D3 or D2, you play 3 or 2 bottom strings of the D chord
