@ Johnny: I had a Sax upload that I learned of King Curtis’ version of I Heard it Through the Grape Vine about a year ago, had a custom backing track and everything ready for it, is part of my series of uploads……talk about a fun, fun song to play on the Saxophone 🙂 I’ll e-mail you the backing track so you can have a listen to it. It’s is probably my favorite song to play on Tenor Sax; so much fun. It REALLY gets me going 🙂 In this song, King Curtis is using the typical notes from the Blues Scales of a minor 3rd and flat 7–it’s cool how these notes work so well even when playing in a Major Key 🙂

Instead of e-mailing it to you Johnny, I’ll just post the backing track I had made for I Heard It Through the Grapevine for other members personal use too.

            Hi Johnny,
I’m loving the new music you’ve posted. I got the “Job Lot”, Surfer Girl, Sound of Silence etc, and Playing along with the backing track is really making me focus on timing etc!! One question about Moon River – the very last not in the score is a D#, but you sort of gliss down to a real low note …. is that an octave lower? And what notes would you suggest I hit on the way down, to get that great sound you make?

            Great. Dave

Right on Dave glad to hear that!
at the end I pl;ay the notes as written but you’re right, I slide down to the lower octave D#
the downward gliss is covered in the lesson video fore that song.

My “Jazzer’s Cookbook” arrived yesterday. Lots go good tips in the book. I recognize some of the names and contributors like Mike Vax and Jim Widner. Mike Vax was the main trumpet teacher in Jim Widner’s big band when I was in Jazz Camp years back. Jamey Aebersold recommends that we learn the Bebop Scale. On page 5 Aebersold writes “Jazz insists that you use the Bebop Scale” so along with my majors and minors and chromatics and blue scale I’m adding the Bebop scales
