While searching for Lionel Torrence music I came across this cute mug which made me smile.
August 27, 2017 at 10:25 am #58774Mark, I thought you meant your sax had a high F# key…the added one which older horns don’t have.
August 27, 2017 at 10:27 am #58775yes Jeff, it’s pretty hard to search on youtube for “Lionel” without running into Lionel Ritchie something or other.

Hi Johnny, there doesn’t seem to be any transcriptions, books or sheet music available for Lionel Torrence’s work.
I bought two of Michael Breker’s books and got quite a surprise, it will be quite a while before I can attempt any of his tunes.

Scary stuff, kinda redefines difficult!
August 27, 2017 at 10:21 pm #58804wow, ya when I was a young player I used to work on stuff like this but now I just get a headache looking at it.
I will say this tho if you want to copy some of his stuff….
give it a good listen ,then look at the music. if you were to just sight read this stuff it would be almost impossible….but if you heard the lick being played then saw the transcription….it makes more sense and you’d be able to at least know what all the notes are and work it out slowly then eventually get it….that’s how I did it.August 27, 2017 at 11:56 pm #58807Anonymous
Hi Johnny, thanks for the advice. I’m working on some easier tunes at the moment, trying to improve my timing. This approach of your’s to learning new tunes works well. I use my WAV player on the PC, put the tune on repeat whilst I’m reading emails etc. I’m hoping to know the tunes timing by memory, so as you say, when I see the sheet music I know exactly how to play it. It’s going to take years of hard practice to get to Michael Breker’s music level.
Jethro Tull’s “Nothing Is Easy”
——————————————
Nothing is easy,
Though time gets you worrying,
My friend, it’s OK
Just take your life easy
And stop all that hurrying,
Be happy my way …Good advice!

Looking at Michael’s makes this tune come to my mind.
September 1, 2017 at 3:16 pm #58972Curtis’ version of One Mint Tulep was my fave until I heard Ray Charles version.
I did however take the intro from King Curtis as well as a few bars in his solo as the start of my solo
but as a whole I really dig Ray’s! -
