I listen to some backing tracks in the morning and start blowing when my wife stops playing the piano; about mid-day, blowing into the afternoon till about 3:00 PM

I like to practice early however, I have a day job to live so I usually don’t start till after 7or8 central time often times it’s 10 in the evening but I have my own place so noise is not a problem, getting tired is! I too use backing tracks now Johnnies exercises, I blow 1357 in a circle of 4ths major minor pentatonic major minor I don’t know if this is a Johnnie exercise, but I have a alto and what I do is starting on low Bb flat going all the way up to high F# I try to hold each note 4measures it’s ass kicking if you go slow . When I don’t have time I will just do this exercise very very slow I guarantee this will kill you but I’m sure it’s going to pay off.Hey Jake I think You had mentioned to me about metal mouthpieces and their tone, I wound up getting a Meyer 8 tip opening Med facing hard rubber, I think I like it! I can hear a cleaner brighter sound I think?? I’m half deaf from drumming anyway, but I believe Johnnie said you can’t go wrong with Meyer! Hey Johnnie what should we be practicing so were not wasting our precious time??????

In my case, and in an effort to maintain good reputation as a neighbour LOL, I never start before 10:30 am and I try not to enter the “lunch and rest” period from noon to 3 pm. After that, I can play up till 7 pm or so.
Nevertheless, if I know I will not be able to make annoying noises, I choose to “play” the horn soundless, I mean blowing it softly to deliberately make no sound, and still practice reading, tempo, fingering and tongue articulation. I use to follow the score exactly as if I’d have been playing it, incuding the metronome.

for me its not a case of what time of the day – but if i don’t find time for at least a minimum of 30 minutes a day then i start to get anxious – thats how passionate i am.
