Jak- hope everything works out well for you!

February 23, 2017 at 9:17 am #49288Thanks Mel, that’s real kind of you. Yeah I’ve spent the day Blowin along to all kind of backing tracks and just putting my tenor licks onto alto. Not good. Its been tough, but I’m hoping the alto will sell and I can get right back to.it. Man, I need another tenorsax !!
February 23, 2017 at 11:06 am #49306Hi Jak
Obviously things are a bit hard at the moment
I am sure things will get better.
In the meantime can you not try and hire a tenor
sax from your local music store at a agreed rate
until you get back up and running ( just a thought)
at least you could go out playing and earn some
dough.February 23, 2017 at 11:19 am #49310Thanks Peter, that is something I’ve considered. Its usually rental to school kids and the better horns are not cheap to rent from specialist companies. I’m literally going right through the book. Any dealer I’ve known, I’m asking to take the alto for a working tenor. On E Bay there are horns for as little as two fifty ( pounds ). I know that within two, three weeks, I can save that, its just having not earned for nine months, every last cent is gone. Sods law dictates, if I were an alto player, I’d be over the moon. ( did you take a look ? ). Surely there must be a way to change a great little alto for a working tenor. Thanks man but those are the options. Hopefully the alto will sell and I can add the extra, that would secure a nice stencil for now.
February 23, 2017 at 11:29 am #49311I can’t bring myself to think back over the last coupla years. My King bari was crushed by a toppled p.a. stack. The insurance had lapsed by literally weeks. My broken arm was brought on by a street mugging. I’ve kept this quiet as I don’t want to appear to be chasing the sympathy angle. At the time, I had half paid a guy I taught for a 10M…I’ve had a few. Man, his attitude was wrong. His only concern was getting his cash. One of those guys with nine horns and can’t play a major scale. I suppose its a question of good things coming to those who wait. For how long ? I’m pushing like crazy for the compensation. One working tenor after thirty years playing, not a lot to ask !!
February 23, 2017 at 11:43 am #49312One last time. The alto is listed under Martin altos. silverfoxpeterjason is an old friend. I’m down to a cheap pad and don’t have PayPal, so he has helped me right back from when the going couldn’t get better. Right now I’m totally lost. I play daily, I have to. It keeps up the discipline but frankly is totally wasted. When this is sorted, I won’t ever pick up another alto, I’ll leave that end to the alto \ sop players. There are some great ones about, but give me a tenor or bari every time. ANY WORKING T \B..regardless of how it looks. PLEASE LET ME KNOW !! It will come good..it has to. I started at sixteen, I’m fifty three now. The run of bad luck is mind blowing !!

have you tried putting your for sale on this forum
https://cafesaxophone.com/forums/yard-sale.21/I play alto, and dropped mine on the floor this week in a sax lesson,
and i’ve got to do without sax until the middle of march when it should be repaired !February 24, 2017 at 12:10 am #49322sxpoet man that’s not good news. Thanks for the link. I was reading last night; something about if you push too hard you’ll be tying yourself in knots. Better be calm ; nothings going to change until the time is right. I avoid cafe sax and ” socks in the wash “. They have this hierarchy going on. The folk are on there non stop !! If you question their thinking you end up arguing with the whole bunch. I tried it, made a coupla friends but the big site, Forget it !! Its all about the $$$$$$ from advertising overpriced junk.
February 24, 2017 at 1:08 am #49325sxpoet, where are you man ? If your without a horn until March, I’ll give you the alto at an unbeatable price. Some working tenors about for as low as two fifty ( pounds ). I’d do that !!
Have a great day, jakFebruary 24, 2017 at 3:43 am #49329Anonymous
Thanks for the offer Jak, my teacher offered to lend me one of his spare altos, But because this is the second time my sax has come off the spring loaded catch on my strap and gone in for repairs and also taking into account everything comes in threes, i turned down his offer as well.
I’m waiting to see if the insurance will pay for the repair quote around £230, no matter how you bash these sax’s around, they still sound ok if their repaired properly.
The couple weeks break, will give me more time to improve my water painting skills, if i get more into to painting, i might drop playing the sax altogether.
Supply and Demand – good luck selling it!
