      Pipeline Saxophone Music

Today’s new saxophone song is “Pipeline”, one of the great standouts in American Surf Music of the early 60’s – lots of fun on sax too!
This version of Pipeline is a saxophone instrumental. Recorded by The Chantays in 1962 and written by Bob Spickard and Brian Carman.

This one was a lot of fun and I even added a saxophone section to the backing track, so check it out…

      Song Key

This version is in the key of E minor. That puts the Bb sax music chart in F# minor. The alto sheet music is in C# minor. Not so bad cause minor keys have less sharps than major keys!

Thanks, now download the song and have fun!
      Rock on,

      Johnny Ferreira

        History

The tune, originally called “Liberty’s Whip” after The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, was renamed after the band members saw a surfing movie showing scenes of the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. The record, fitting in with the popular surfing craze of the time, swiftly rose up the Billboard Pop charts. This legendary stretch of beach is famous for its powerful waves, dramatic barrels, and deep roots in surf culture. Since the 1960s, the Pipeline has been the proving ground for the world’s best surfers, drawing competitors and enthusiasts alike to witness nature’s raw power and some intense athletic mastery. “Pipeline” is one of the most famous surf rock instrumentals and has influenced numerous musicians and bands within the genre and beyond. It is considered a classic example of the surf rock sound. The song was used as background music for the BBC’s Match of the Day Goal of the Month competition. It was also used for many years during the 1980s and 1990s as the entrance music for the Edmonton Oilers ice hockey team at home games in Northlands Coliseum.
