Hi Ken, I keep two reeds in their protective slides, inside a plastic effevescent tablet tube. At the bottom of the tube is a sponge plug which has been dampened with listerine. This keeps the reeds moist, ready for playing and not too wet; as the cane does not come into contact with the sponge. I considered buying a synthetic reed but for us in…[Read more]

Hi Mark, this is a really nice tune. I’ve printed out the notation and play it regularly; but I’m reminded of my lack of smoothness and poor timing when comparing my sound to the recording. It is more than a little frustrating when these artists make it sound so effortless – LOL – As Dr Wally says – GO PRACTICE

Hi Sxpoet, thanks for the info. That’s very helpful. Too Bee or not too Bee 😉

Hi Mark, I presume you are talking about the trumpet sections. The trumpet is rasping in the original tune, and I was trying to simulate that by growling. It’s quite tricky to growl through a whole bunch of bars, unless you’re very thirsty and riding a Harley motorcycle. I have to learn where to play softer and louder. Thanks for the feedback.

I recently posted my recording of ‘Woke Up Clipped’ and listening to the MP3 yesterday and realised it sounded really crap.
Using Audacity’s maximum resolution to convert the recording. It goes from 3.3Mb to 8.6Mb in size but it sounds so much better.I would like to hear any comments on my attempt, as we don’t notice everything…[Read more]

Hi Mark, I spent an hour yesterday looking for this 2nd part and it didn’t come up on my U-tube results.
The problem I noticed is that the end bars of the 1st part is chopped off in the video, on all the platforms where it is posted.
It does sound good though. Cheers -

Hi Mark
Thanks for the comments and positive motivation. I’ve been repeatedly playing that tune since December last year and it’s still a long way from acceptable. When I was a lad and misbehaved, my Dad would say to us “Why be difficult, when for a little more effort, you can be totally impossible?”
Therefore to do the ‘impossible’ it must only…[Read more] -

Hi sxpoet, I don’t have a net, but I did have to buy a new chair. My old pneumatic adjustable stool kept squeaking loudly when my weight shifted. My new high chair is welded steel tubing and a plastic seat, so no more noises. It allows me to breath better too as my chest isn’t folded from sitting too low. Only my MP3’s are in-ter-net 😉
Cheers Jeff -

Hi James, no, I may buy one later to try.
Here’s my attempt at playing the sax, trumpet and piano parts.
Please don’t throw anything too heavy!

Hi sxpoet, It’s a fair recording with good balance between the sax and BT volume.
I think your timing has improved and the sax sounds quite mellow. b^ -
