I take that back. it sounds best with the dark lig and the Rico H lig. I will stick to the dark lig. very easy to slap on. 🙂

The Rico Orange sounds best with my Vandoren optimum ligature. I was just surprised that after trying so many different reeds that the good old Rico orange sounds pretty good. Many label it as a beginner reed. There are pro players who play the orange. My goal is to work to a 3 and see what happens. That will be awhile though.

I like the Javas but recently I ordered a Rovner Dark ligature to try. it’s just a simple one screw rubber ligature with no plates or anything. I tried an orange Rico 2.5 reed on it and it sounds great! No dark sound. I got a big focused sound out of it. Sam Ash had the ligatures for $18

I like King Curtis a lot. Just too bad his life was taken so young. Would have loved to hear where his saxophone would have taken him.

Got my Dr. Slick today. Haven’t used any cork grease for a few days waiting for it to arrive. I did noticed that I hardly put any on the cork and I was able to grease it well. Thanks for bring Dr. Slick to my (our) attention!

It’s a good song to work on. Johnny is right on! I am just starting to incorporate the metronome in all I do. You can tell on scales right away when you use one. Instead of just blasting thru them there is a more definite structure. 🙂

I don’t know about the Legere reeds but I am glad to here you are using the Reed Geek and like it. I was just going to order one. I have been using really fine sand paper on the backs. I like that you can also trim the front up also with the Geek.
