      Keep looking in here everyday,
to see if anyones recorded something?

I guess everyone must be too busy,
in my case i can only find time once a week to record, as i have to get everything out and put it all away when i’ve finished. Takes the shine off recording.

Also working on a lot of timing/rhythmn sheet exercises, so not specifically working on any tunes – not the sort of material to demo.

The blues stuff i’m working on, isn’t improvising (months down the line) – so again not the sort of material for recording.

i hope more people start uploading again, and liven up the site. I would have thought with all the new guardala mouthpieces – people would demoing them?

Good points Sxpoet, I was wondering the same thing. I had a temporary set back with my health and didn’t get to practice/meet with my instructor for 3 weeks. I’m doing better now and resumed my practices/lessons yesterday, I plan to upload shortly.

I did record something weeks ago and but kept making mistakes when doing the recording and gave up after 2 attempts as i felt i still didn’t know the piece properly. I might have another go at recording it this week, as i feel i’ve got a bit further with it. I’m not after a world class recording with standing ovation, flag waving etc… just a reasonable amateur recording that’l blow your brains out! lol – only kidding.

I’ll be recording soon. My Fatboy arrived, and soon I’ll post something. I like recording with no backing track, sort of hold that note long as i want to. I have some music lined up. I have to respect others in the house. Those MB11’s can blow the roof off the house.

And while I’m on the horn and have the floor. I soak my reeds in water and vodka to prevent mold. Been doing that for two weeks. So far…no mold, and the reed tastes good.

glad to hear people are still recording.

i know the problems with loud mouthpieces in small rooms,
my teacher played his new theowanne Tenor mouthpiece, and when
he played the low notes it was as loud as a trombone, definitely not
suited to playing in small rooms.

I still store my reeds in a listerine/water bottle and i’ve been playing the same reed for months, no problems with mould etc.. and the reed plays straight away when i take it out the water bottle. i don’t go in
for rotating reeds, just run em into the ground, and start on the next one.

                has anyone tried these reeds?

@ Sxpoet: sorry if I’ve missed any of your uploads over the last few weeks–Are there any recent videos you’ve posted here at all that I can look at? I had a health issue I was dealing with so everything Saxophone wise got put on the side for me for about 3 weeks. You’re putting forth the effort and that’s what counts–I know what you mean about wanting to do the best you can, but it’s really encouraging to see the progress everyone is making despite the struggles we all have. If the Sax was an easy instrument to play, then there would be lots more people trying to tame the beast we call the Saxophone! This past Monday was a return to my regular routine both with my Instructor and what I do personally. Because of my health issue, my Instructor graciously re-assigned my due date for my Moondance project until May 30th, the last Monday of May. If I can present it to him sooner I told him I would, but I really want to upload it here for Johnny to look at and critique first; having that extra help from Johnny is a real plus of the blog 🙂 I’m not sure if I’ll meet with the Blues Society this Friday night or not for our weekly Blues playing–I may wait till next week, just depends on how my chops feel LOL By next week I should be fine. It’s not going to kill them to not hear any Altissimo notes for one week LOL Those guys are hooked on hearing Altissimo on the Sax 🙂

@ William: yeah, I definately want to see you do something with your new Guardala…it would be a big help to me for sure. I’m looking at getting one later this year around fall-winter. I know the Studio Guardala that I had was a knock-off, watered-down Guardala that was cheap on Amazon..but I really miss playing it 🙂 Right now I’m leaning towards the MBII, but we’ll see how it goes. How do the Guardalas feel when you play them? What I mean is from the lowest range of the Sax, as high as you can go, subtones, ballads, etc.. My fear is getting the Guardala and find it to be superb on one way of Blues, Rock, Altissimo, etc.. but difficult to control in the way of ballads, Subtones, sweeter melodies, etc.. Hoping more members can provide those of us who don’t have a Guardala yet with some insights in this regard.

@ Sxpoet: I haven’t tried those reeds, but I do use the Vandoren Java Greens for Alto, Tenor and soprano and they are working great for me.
