I’ve heard of players “going through necks” and needing to replace them on their Saxophones. What can happen that causes the neck on your Saxophone to go bad/needs to be replaced? Or are they trying to improve the sound of their Saxophone(can you even do that with a new neck?) 😎

Yes, you can “upgrade” the neck on your sax. Necks can also get banged up and dented which make it sound inferior at some point.
Personally, I’ve had to replace a few over the years, mainly because I put too much pressure on it and so they bend. Eventually I got the repair guy to solder a brace across the neck to prevent it from bending.

I bought a Ponzol neck for my Selmer Series II tenor and it made a huge difference in tonal quality. Nothing wrong with the factory neck, just that the Ponzol was far better.
