      I’m originally from Buffalo, NY.

I tried an alto sax for a couple of weeks but decided to get a tenor sax.

Years ago (late 1950s-early 1960s), George “Hound Dog” Lorenz was a popular Rock and R&B DJ on WKBW radio in Buffalo.
The high-powered radio station often reached New York City at night.

I would love to be able to play his theme song, “The Big Heavy” by Cozy Eggleston.

That tune is too cool. I first heard it in the 1990’s when I bought the Honkers and Bar Walkers compilation cd. I think it said from 1955 but it is totally reminiscent of the late 40’s early 50’s sound which is my favorite.

Wow. I’m glad you know the tune. I purchased the mp3 from that album. George Lorenz was the Buffalo version of New York City’s Alan Freed, promoting all-star revues in Buffalo of performers with current hits, from Lavern Baker, Sam Cooke, Little Anthony to Dion and the Belmonts.

If you ever get the time and inclination, I’d like to see a transcription.

Oh I have the inclination… it’s the time that’s usually the problem!
