My granddaughter came over, brought her alto and we recorded this tune as a duet (alto and tenor). She played the solo on her alto, this is the first time she’s ever played a solo that wasn’t written out. She’s a senior in high school and up to this point hasn’t played any jazz or R&R, just symphonic and marching band songs. I gave her some tips on the scales to use, let her listen to some examples of other players soloing over this tune on YouTube and let her play. I was stunned how well she played. This was a one take recording.
