Yup V16s reeds are serious , 1.5 is my flavor, Java 2, they seem to be the most consistent reeds i have used, i also have some alexander NY, gonzalez and a handful of fibracel premiums and regular they buzz too much—i also tried vandoran purples yuk—
i have yet to find a synthetic reed that sounds like wood- the qualities in bamboo is…[Read more] -

i think , as far as reeds go just get the reed that works for your mp, and then play softly .
i would not rely on certain reeds to use to play softly, and certain reeds to use to play loud——–for me i have a few MPs, some work better with V16s, other work well with Java greens, but it could just be the strength needed, , but no matter what i…[Read more] -

as far as playing them , i have hit them to 3rd octave D, just farting around though, I have yet to integrate anything above 3rd A in to any musical tune, AS you put it, “with feeling”, i really have not needed it,
but tried them out, i too only hit them around them minutes a day, most people around can’t stand them LOL— my biggest stepping…[Read more]

at this point, i really don’t see a need to hit above A on the altissimo range, and rarely that, i like mostly ballads , stan getz, Ben Webster kind of things, rock and roll from the 50s, is good too,

i am no expert by any means but i have found, dark MPs attribute to it, wider chambers and rubber, airflow with a slower speed but more volume, (which equals the same airflow as usual to get the notes) you can open your throat, with me this is how i get the lower notes anyways– my thoughts anyways
