I took the survey. One thing I wanted to add. Sometimes, often times I need the lyrics for the music along with the notes. Lyrics help me with adding emotion to parts of the music and the lyrics help me keep my place in the music. At least when I’m learning a song. E.g, Take the song/music to “What’d I Say”. I often have to refer to one of my B…[Read more]

Thanks Johnny. Great Song and Tutorial. About Ray Charles:My former sax teacher in St louis Mo. always backed up Ray Charles when ever Ray Charles came to St Louis for a private benefit performance. He said that Ray Charles was a fantastic Saxophone player besides a rocking piano player

“Tears In Heaven”
This last few days I’ve been playing around with “Tears In Heaven” by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings in the Key of “A” for Tenor. Different books have it in different keys. Mostly 8th notes. Good song to learn.

I hear the 2nd & 4th beats on “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” or is it the 1st and 3rd beats? What’s the drum story on “A Whiter Shade of Pale” ?

Often I can’t hear the drum. It fades into the music. I can hear Bon Jovi’s drummer

Hitting the notes in”Born to Run” was easier today. After I practiced “Wave” I took on the “Born to Run” solo. The first two notes. C#, easy. just blow with the octave key; A#, two fingers like B flat and using the octave key Then more C#’s, add a D#. That’s like an E flat with the octave key and two aide levers. Soon I’m at the high F# using the…[Read more]

I’ve been working on the “Born to Run” Solo. Being that it’s Rock’n Roll it must be Straight 8’s and not swinging 8’s. It’s too fast for swinging 8’s. I think or seem to remember Rock ‘n Roll calls for straight 8’s. it’s almost too fast to remember the melody right after I listen to it. Sounds like the 8 notes tie into the 16th notes so fast that…[Read more]

Ya Johnny. I copied the Solo and set it on my music stand. I usually count new music , like anah 1 and 2 anah 3 and 4 anah etc. I do it with a whistle motion. So my daily exercise is blow through this solo every day before I tackle WAVE by Jobim in F.

OK Saxomonica,
I found “Born to Run” this way, and walk this way, not that way, Go to the main page “Premium Access. You may see the pictures of Boot Randolph, over to King Curtis, The Big Horn… keep going til you see a Microphone. Click on the “Let’s Do it”. That should bring you to the page where you can access Born Two Run. That works for me. -

Mark,
I play a Selmer Paris super action Series II Ref. 54. I have a Yamaha chromatic tuner. I start off in Tune and somewhere along the way I usually drift off into my own never land. Cheers -
