Today I sat in my pit and recorded my sax and added a solo part. Not too bad so as time goes by I might post it. I also ordered a new neck strap from https://justjoessaxgelstrap.com

Greetings fellow saxophonists.
I’m working on a pile of music, like “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” and many more Today and tomorrow I’ll be working on Ray Charles’s “You Don’t Know Me”. I’m adding a few mordents here and there in the sheet music and some extra notes and grace notes here and there
We’ll see how…[Read more] -

My wife doesn’t like Christmas music or any seasonal music so I’ll play Rudolph when she’s is away and maybe record it my way. You know the latin idiom “de gustibus non disputandum est’ So I’m working on some Stan Getz. The metronome is for playing along with scales and not sound tracks.

$1500? Too much for me. I’ll just keep playing my tenor. Time to practice sub tones

Ya Sxpoet
The best metronome for me is tapping my foot. When I play Johnny’s Rudolph I add other notes and side riffs. I start with Dexter Gordon’s “Daddy Plays The Horn” dadada dat da dah. I add other frases that might come up as I play along. So my best metronome is stomping my right leg to the beat in my mind. Sometimes I write the count…[Read more] -

I bought a new metronome and I see that metronomes have come a long way from the exacto The exacto goes up in increments of 2 beats.”How Great Thou Art” is 61 beats PM. So now I have the Peterson Bodybeat Sync metronome. You would need a PH.D in electronics to operate it. Not only does it make audible sounds there is also a clip to clip on my…[Read more]

Regarding sax supports: I once bought a sax seat that has a shelf that the sax rests on. The seat was always uncomfortable so I removed the back of the seat, turned it around so the shelf and seat was facing me. Now I sit in my usual chair, rest the sax on the sax seat shelf and play away with no pressure on my neck. I still keep the neck strap…[Read more]

Johnny: When you play the Bb in the 3rd bar do you add a quick grace note. e.g. do you play Bb-C-Bb or do you play Bb-A-Bb. I’ll note each one. Eb in bar 11, G in bar 17, G in bar 22, Eb in bar 23,?

I’ll use my Motown music book. Not as good as Johnny’s sheet music and background music but it’s a start.

Working on My Girl
I could use a full mix while practicing “My Girl”. I would buy it again if Johnny had the flu mix.

Hi John
Talking with Michael Bishop some time in the past I bought an Enlightened Ligature from Theo Wanne for the guardala mpcs.

Ya John
The lig is attached to the mouthpiece but The Rovner or Winslow holds the reed better in place, The stock ligature on the Durga seemed to always turn a bit. I did move the stock lig up to the front. Seemed to work better up front but the Rovner or Winslow worked best for me. So I removed the stock lig and replaced it with the winslow

I’v been blowing my Guardala Fatboy. Today I/m blowing my Theo Wanne Durga 5. I took the ligature that comes with the durga and put on a Winslow ligature. Blows a lot better with the Winslow or even with a Rovner. So it’s the Winslow. Blowing “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” by Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand. Background music is in the key of C…[Read more]

Did you ever do a backing track and sheet music for “Pretty Woman”?

I’m also practicing with Tony Orlando’s backing track My backing track MUSIC is in A major. The last verse of “He don’t love you like I love you” goes up half step. So I lowered the backing track to G and G#. So my tenor sax plays A and Bb and the backing track plays G and G#. I’m tone deaf so mathematically I think I have it correct. The backing…[Read more]
