Hey guys: Ligature fit? Look out here. The Winslow and Saxxas are made for Hard rubber and metal. The 2 types are different in size. Make sure you are getting the one that is made for your mouthpiece. Metal will not fit hard rubber. Tim

Hard rubber or metal?? Lee Allan used hard rubber. Did not like the metal in his mouth. He seemed to to very well. You have heard his work all through the 50’S and 60’S. Fats and Little Richard are just a few he played with. Tim
April 5, 2014 at 4:14 pm #11874Guys, Let me in here. I have been playing for a few years on a Myer 5 MP. I have been using 2 to 3 syn reeds. Fibracell and Legers. Johnny wanted me to try cane again. I got Vandoren 2 and 2.5 ZZ’S. They play real well. No noise out of me. I just changed my MP to an old Otto link 6* I think? Large chamber. The Myer is a smaller chamber. So, more air. I live at 6000ft. Would be better at sea level?? I had a lesson with Johnny yesterday. He said I sounded good on the Otto Link. Deeper tone. Just what I like. So, I’m set for awhile now. I don’t have a shop near me. For those of you that do, ues what they have and see. Tim
January 29, 2014 at 7:28 pm #11634Hey guys: I have Crazy in the key of F. If you would like, I can scan it and send it to Johnny. Let me know. Tim
January 25, 2014 at 12:12 pm #11605Dee: Try this, without playing, run your pinky back from key to key over the rollers. Do it slowly. You only have 2 keys to deal with here. I do these exorcizes every day. Do the same with your left hand too. Again, very slow. See if that will help. Tim
December 24, 2013 at 7:32 am #11432Adrian: First of all, I have taken lessons from Johnny. I recommend this to all on this site! Johnny knows what I do every day I play. Long tones first. I use the fingering chart that came with my first learning book. Top to bottom High F to low Bb/A#. Scales, tounged and slured. Use Johnnys lessons on the site. Buy booth of his books. I did not learn with his book. I started 4.5 years ago. Get music books books you like. Listen to the tunes you like. Can’t say enough about this. Very important. There are many books in music stores that will work. Do take lessons from Johnny! He will listen to you and help you with all you want to know. Learn all the scales, upside down/backwards, over and over again. Breathing, bring you diaphragm up to you lower rib cage. Do take brakes while practicing. Your mouth should start to hurt.Rest and go at it again. No Carnegie Hall if you don’t do it! Tim

November 21, 2013 at 8:39 am #11354Plastic reeds huh? That’s me. Been playing them for 4 years. I live at 6000 feet. Can you say very dry! I had a lesson from Johnny 2 days ago. I found a real plastic reed, Bari. So, I thought I’d use it to start off with. He said it sounded good. Hmmm? I had not used it for some time. Bottom line, There for me. I am used to using them. Not to mention, long lasting. consistent and no hassle. I use Fibracells and Legers. I have not bought a new one for over a year now. If Johnny reply’s, I’m sure he will tell you folks how I sound with them. Oh, If you have not taken a lesson from him? Do it!!! You will meet a great guy and someone who cares how your doing and can help you very much with your playing and understanding your instrument and the music we play. Rock on! Tim Hey, I said this before huh??? LOL Another thing,,,, I’m old! 70
