Hi John,
That theme 1 and theme 1A was with another Theme thing you were showing us that went with “What Does It Take”. The page with CHORDAL and MODAL. THE TENOR SOLO related to What Does It Take. Regarding your Europa sheet music I plan to go down an octave where you play the high octaves. I can play around with sheet music patterns, e.g. Am7…[Read more] -

Ya, I’ve been watching Johnny’s video of Europa. I have the music and I have the music with chords in Am7 etc. ii-v-i. Johnny did a music graft of Am7 and Gm7 showing Theme 1 and Theme 1A, Theme 2 theme 2 A. How does this apply to “Europa”

Explanation Too complicated. Santana’s “Europa”. Lots of ii-v-i’s. What came first. the chord progression or the melody?

What comes first? The melody or the chords, chord progression? Do the chords come from the melody notes?

I’m playing around with “Europa”. Johnny wrote that the song is in A minor. c d e f g A minor, a pure minor, the Aeolian mode.In stead of just playing the melody notes I’ll try to mix in some modes, and Themes.FIRST THREE Chords are Am7 Dm7 G7. Looks like a ii-V-i to me. So where would I enter my first modal scale? Maybe at the first G7 chord eg.…[Read more]

I switched back to my Guardala King mouthpiece. I find the King mouthpiece easier to blow. Less quivering with my mouth. Sound is more steady

Around 1997 I bought some sheet music in C major for piano vocal and guitar. It was “Let It Be” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in a green cover. I was living in St Louis Missouri at the time. So while the ladies were down stairs playing Bridge I was up stairs playing “Let It Be” on an old tenor sax. In my Bb music book the music is in D major.…[Read more]

Correction: “Wave” is the chart I have problems with. Chart is divided into 4 sections. A, B, C, and D. 12 measures of A, 12 measures of B. 8 measures of C and 12 measures of D. Two dots mean repeat starting with section A. A string orchestra comes in and on section C lead sax picks uo and plays through sections C and D. I need a music director…[Read more]

Wave
I have Wave in the Keys of F minor, E minor, and G minor. F minor by Jobim seems to be the best Key but the chart is confusing. Chart is divided into 4 sections A B C and D. After going through all 4 sections the two dots means repeat but no repeat. There is what seems to be an instrumental part for sections A and B. Then John Sergenian’s…[Read more] -

Working with Modes
Using modes with “What Does It Take”; Sounds good. I’m tone deaf so having the music notes helps. Can I use modes with the song “You Never Can Tell”? “You never Can Tell? has 2 chords. D major and A major. Using Modes would I play six measures of the chard D starting with the ionian D or would I start with the Dorian E. The…[Read more] -

Very slowly. Something about the Dominant 7th scale. Thake the 4th of a major scale e.g. G scale. The 4th of the G major scale is C. No sharps or flats in the C major scale ergo G dominant 7th G A B C D E F natural. E dominant 7th. 4th of the E major scale is A. A major has 3 sharps, C# G# F#. So E Dominant 7th is E F# G# A B C# D Natural E. Funny…[Read more]

Ok SXPoet
I’m back with Johnny’s Improve course. I know all my scales. 2-5-1? What do I do with it. I have the Tequila sheet music and the backing track. I have the 2-5-1 jazz music book. So I’ll go around the circle of 5ths while I study Johnny’s improve course. Clear as mud but it covers the ground.
