I appreciate the time each of you took to respond. It rips me up to think of abandoning something that was sort of “on my bucket list” of things to achieve. I talked with the guy who sold me the horn, and he is willing to take it back, and give me a full refund. That’s very kind of him.

Do me a small favor, will ya (each of you)………….someday, somewhere, when you are playing your horn………..dedicate a song you play to “soupy. The guy who always wanted to be one of us, but just couldn’t.” I’ll find great comfort in knowing that somebody somewhere, played his/her best for me………….just “because.”

I’m seriously considering NEVER having another one of those (Colonoscopy)!! The “prep” is not fun!! That said, the results have not been remarkable anyway. So they found two Benign Polyps, ……….so what?! Last time it was “four,” (Benign) so why worry. If the count is going down, ………I’m good. At least that’s the way “I’m” beginning to view it.

But anyway………..still on my quest for a local Teacher. I have found a local “music school” the states that they have Teachers for the Saxophone. I’ll bet their rates are competitive. I guess if I could get at least a year’s worth of Lessons, I’d be better off than none at all.

I admit to having NOT picked up the horn for two days now. I don’t want to believe that it is from a lack of interest. Rather I think it is that ……….well…..I’ve been “recovering” from the hospital, and very weak; (fair reason) and also, because I don’t know what to do next (other than repeat the Key of C Scale and work on clean notes and good breathing; all worthy pursuits).

Steve.zuk (I’m a “Steve” as well): thanks for the time you invested in responding. I appreciate that.

As to the “bad habits” that everyone talks about in various Forums and on video lessons…………I hear everyone TALK about em, but sometimes it helps (as they say, “one should KNOW their enemy, in order to defeat them”) to hear what they are. If you had to make a list of “bad habits to avoid,” what would they be????

            1.
            2.
            3.
            4.
            5.

I don’t know how many there actually ARE, but perhaps thinking this thru and getting them down on paper from experienced players would be useful to complete rookies like me, eh?

Jake/Baboon: good stuff guys. Thanks for repeating yourselves as you probably have, this gazillion times to newbies like me. I experience that in the motorcycle Forum I’m part of, being a seasoned rider. There are constantly “newbies” to nurture, and it can get really wearisome and old to have to repeat the same instructions over and over and over and over. So when I say “thanks” to you, I mean it, because I’ve been there, and am there even now.

At fifty-seven, (hey! I just realized……..I’ll be fifty-eight in a couple of weeks!!) I have finished raising kids, but am still working full time. I was thinking this morning that my “practice time” will have to be either right before, or more likely “right after” dinner each night. I’m committed to practicing daily.

you need to have a bunch of reeds to blow thru. if you try 10 reeds you’ll find that 1 or 2 will work better than the others. this is how you learn to figure out the difference between reeds. many beginners buy a couple reeds to start off with. let’s say those 2 reeds are crap but that’s all you have…see my point?

I bought a box of 10 (Rico #2) and so far, have used only one of them, twice over. Should I number them, and use “one a day” for a while?

                  lol……..I have a question already……..lol………..are you surprised? I doubt it………….

Should the screws to the Ligature, be on the rounded back end of the reed, on the bottom side of the mouthpiece, or should the screws be on top of the mouthpiece, or does it matter?

P.S.: I just took a look at the video you did, about the Complete Fingering System. BIG mistake for a newbie like me!! Scared the HECK outa me!! (lol). That’s gonna take YEARS to learn!! (I realize it’s about “taking it slowly and all that, but still………..).

                    Jake,
Thanks for the “heads up.” I just downloaded the E-Book moments ago. Should I be using the Fingering systems mixed IN with the E-Book info, or should I hold off on the Fingering System til later. in your opinion?

Changing the strap and getting a stand. two items on my list. Now if I could just get a handle on when to use a different reed……………

Johnny: I consider that HIGH PRAISE coming from such an accomplished player as yourself!! Thanks for the encouragement man!! (Ever had the occasion to play with Kirk Whalum? He seems (along with guys like Branford Marsalis) to be a fairly good Sax player. Almost as good as YOU (lol). Almost!!
