I finally went through all 38 of my alto music books which have backing tracks, and combined them with the backing tracks from Johnny’s website – a total of 459 songs with backing tracks.
Some songs are repeated in different music books.
The most popular song in my books are Harlem Nocturne and Sway occurring in 4 different music books, followed…[Read more] -

Well played! These tunes are made for the Tenor Sax, an Alto wouldn’t sound as effective.

lots of good stuff on taming the sax website saxomonica!
i have to write on the music sheets where to use alternative fingers, as i get lazy and tend to use standard finger positions – but start me on alternative finger positions on the clarinet. To play scales on the clarinet is ten times harder than on the sax in terms of fingering, anyone who…[Read more] -

i’ve noticed the difference in how my sax sounds with playing classical and jazz sheets, the classical stuff doesn’t sound as nice with my bright mouthpiece. But i never thought of tuning lower and higher for the different styles.

interesting quote
I use differing techniques to adjust intonation in the two styles. I tend to tune a bit higher when playing jazz because, as I said earlier, jazz musicians tend to hear the pitch higher than classical musicians. Also, jazz saxophonists are among the softest instruments in many jazz groups, competing with brass, drums and…[Read more]

Jeff i finally got my sax repaired last summer, i was lucky that i bought a midi sax to carry on practicing with (EMEO midi sax identical to a sax body) , which i still use if i don’t want to disturb anyone.
You’ll have to upload some C major scale recordings between the different mouthpieces on the 62 sax. I wouldn’t bother with the student sax,…[Read more]

Hi Jeff,
The main thing to remember is everyone on this website that i have come across are decent folks. My playing hasn’t changed much since recording 10 years ago, the only difference is i’ve got better recording microphones and software that can tinker with the final sound.
The thing i found with playing guitar chords, is i could sit in the…[Read more]

appears to have a bug in the display system, when you append an old forum post?
Seems to overlap onto later postings, and make them unreadable. -

Excellent idea Leo, the school my youngest daughter went to, donated her an electric guitar when she was playing clarinet in the school band. She had two school band trips abroad, in Belgium and Italy and fully enjoyed playing.
Then i bought her clarinet off her, just in case she wants to pick it up again later on in life, so i’m now practicing…[Read more]

think of all those poor upcoming young sax players looking for a good sax to buy.
i’ve seen quite a few used Selmar’s come up for sale over the years, and i refuse to buy them, otherwise i could be depriving an upcoming player of getting their hands on a great sax.
i can understand you not parting with them. Have you got names for each one, like…[Read more]
