@Sxpoet @RockinRobin–Michael Bishop here; ironic timing with the comments asking about me. No, I don’t play Saxophone anymore–my Oral Cavity never made a full recovery-Permanent TMD Disorder 🙁 I was showing signs of recovery and did start picking it back up after some time to heal, I even paid Johnny for a 1-year subscription for Sax Academy…[Read more]

Great stuff Mike! Love your tone–very full, fat and smooth sounding. You have some of that ‘buzz’ in your sound too, very cool. Hats off to you 🙂

Check out this super-cool, groovy, bluesy, rockin’ song ‘Some Like it Hot’. Lots of great Sax lines in here too. This is the stuff I really love 🙂 -

Hey guys,
When I was working on chromatic scales today, I noticed my middle D sounded off and something just didn’t sound right on the Sax, almost like sounded like a low D, but the middle D was trying to come out. I had to add the side D key when playing a middle D to get the note to play in tune, and this is just not normal. Does this sound…[Read more]

All right! Good stuff–thanks for sharing it 🙂 Haven’t heard of his band White Trash before, will check that out for sure. Did his first band break up and he formed his White Trash/2nd band?

We just got back from a trip from Missouri–my wife and I enjoyed an anniversary weekend alone–first time in 21 years we’ve had a weekend to ourselves, we had great fun 🙂 We celebrated our 22 year anniversary, which was actually on April 12th. Our oldest son will be 21 in October.
On the way home, I heard this awesome song on the radio, haven’t…[Read more]

Hey Johnny,
I got an e-mail that said you could manually add me to a yearly membership and needed my card info, billing address, etc.. Did that e-mail really come from you? I just wanted to make sure before I reply with the info–don’t want to sound paranoid or something, just wanted to make sure it was from you first. On Gmail, there have been…[Read more]

Michael Bishop started the topic Fiberreeds are great reeds 🙂 in the forum Reeds 4 years, 7 months ago
Hey Johnny,
I got to test the Fiberreeds yesterday for the first time, very nice! They sound better than the Fibracells–especially in the upper range of the Saxophone. It takes more effort to get Altissimo notes out on the Fibracells than the Hemp. With the Hemp reeds, not that much effort was required. They’re loud, bright and buzzy, very cool…[Read more]

Good points being made by everyone here. I was asked where I get my custom tracks made, so I shared it with everyone. There are lots of great places where we can get great tracks. The folks I use aren’t my sole source of tracks–I use many from Karaoke. I just purchased Elvis’ song of ‘Mess of Blues’ from Karaoke and use the custom features to…[Read more]

@ brother cavefish It just depends on the backing track itself and the work that’s required to make it/produce it.

Michael Bishop replied to the topic Tone Development in the forum Saxophone Lessons 4 years, 7 months ago
@ Mel It’s impossible for us to not practice those things too many times. It’s something we have to work on every single day. When I push air from my diaphragm area into the Saxophone, I can sometimes feel the muscles in my back region working too. I have to remind myself to keep my shoulders down and keep the neck muscles relaxed, don’t lean my…[Read more]

Hey Johnny,
I’ve really gotten a lot of benefit from the eeh-ahh exercise, it helps a lot 🙂 It’s pretty amazing how effective these simple exercises are. Resuming my lessons locally, he emphasizes we work on our tone every single day, regardless of how long we’ve been playing. He was telling me how he’s seen players who learned another…[Read more]

Hey guys–As Johnny said, I have some folks I use for making custom tracks for me. They do great work and their prices are very reasonable. They use real musicians in a real studio. They require a 50% deposit up front and you pay the remaining balance after you’ve reviewed the completed track and you approve it, ask them to change something, etc..…[Read more]

The Fibracells are making my practices so much easier and better–less time spent on caring for cane reeds, more consistent playing, etc.. I’m taking to my Sax lesson tomorrow, see what he says about them. I mentioned Fiberreeds to him, said he’s heard of them but never played them, so it will be cool to also bring those for him to try too. He…[Read more]

Hey Johnny,
I just ordered the Fiberreed Onyx and Hemp in the size that I think is right from me–medium soft. Really excited to try them out. For some reason, if medium soft is too thin for me, I’ll order them again in Medium. I was reading your review and you mentioned Medium was just right for you, but that’s probably too big for me at this…[Read more]

@Johnny I’m definitely going to look into those reeds as soon as I can, probably in the month of May. Got some family stuff we’re doing first over the next few weeks. I’ve been hearing great things about them from lots of players. I tried Legere reeds from a music store locally, didn’t like them at all. I’m going to look over your blog post about…[Read more]

The Fibracell reeds came in the mail today and I’m blown away at how well these reeds responded to me. They are much bigger and brighter sounding than my Java Greens (at least for me they were). My entire family noticed the difference right away. I’m not putting any more air into the Sax than I was with the Java Greens–it’s just pops out nice,…[Read more]
